NEWS HOUR

09:30 to 10:30 (60 minutes) | Learning Objective (1): Reading & Vocabulary - Read independently and recognize difference between the main ideas and supporting details.

  • Students discuss their summaries of the “Names from the Past Lead to Battles in South" News for You article with partners
  • Main Ideas of the article:
    1. The Civil War is over, but some battles are still going on.
    2. Citizens of Memphis disagree about chaning landmark names.
    3. Nathan Bedford Forrest is a controversial civil war hero.
    Students work in pairs to come up with details supporting the main ideas.
  • Read and discuss the article as a class

CHECK-IN

10:35 to 10:50 (15)

  • Check-in Student's homework (if not already done individually)
  • Ask students “Do you have any questions for me?”

  • Discuss last night's video assignment on the present tense
  • Review Grammar in Context Textbook to answer any final student questions.

  • Essay - Review discussion/analysis paragraph and introduce the conclusion

  • Continue Fantom of the Fair story

Student Learning Logs

  • Before students leave they have to write an entry in their learning logs
