What we Did in our COC IEP 200 Class on Wednesday, April 3rd

Lesson 7: April 3

In Class

  1. News Hour: “Syrian Refugee Crisis Grows by the Day” News for You article
    • Photocopied the “Teacher’s Guide” activity for the students
    • Broke students into 2 teams and had each develop a 3-step plan to solve the Syrian refugee crisis, then had them put their sentences and diagrams on the board. Winner was easy for me to decide, as one team forgot a period, thus only writing 2 sentences, and losing by default.

    • First time doing this as a class I did not give them any instruction, wanted to see how they responded. After reviewing these I will begin teaching them how to outline.

Fans vote to add cat to monopoly pleces

This acticle is about monopoly that is board game. The company of monopoly game offered five possible new token(a cat, a robot, a diamond ring, a helicopter, and a guitar.)  for to keep. Fans of the monopoly voted cat to monopoly pieces. And the cat won with 31 percent of the vote.

Monopoly is a token game each player should to move a tokens around a board. It is have 10 million Facebook fans. They try to keep people to interested in the game. So they set to change some of tokens in the game. The result is they change the iron to the new cat token.

Monopoly is a game that player move piece called token include other thing. They have Facebook that they use for people choose a new token. Monopoly was created around 80 years ago and based on the street of Atlanta City, New Jersey.

Monopoly is a cards game, Hasbro  made it. Hasbro asked Monopoly is 10 million Facebook fans to choose a new token, 31 percent choose cat. Animal prefer than other cards.

In Syria still have more number of refugees because of war. And some people in there have a difficult life such as a food is too expensive include also rent for shelters. It also mean Jordan, they have a lot of refugees in there.

In Class

  1. News Hour: “Pope Francis Brings Many Firsts to the Vatican
    • Began by putting the “Check Comprehension” questions from the “Teacher’s Guide” on the board
    • Had students discuss “Teacher’s Guide” discussion questions with their partners then together as a class
    • Adapted the Teacher’s Guide resource for yesterday’s article that introduced the “Future Perfect” tense. Then looked at the explanation of it from Volume A of Understanding and Using English Grammar (Second Ed.) on page 53.
  2. Fast Listening: Lesson 6
  3. Homework Check-in
  4. Short Story: Pages 44
    • Page 44 – What was the article he read in English class about? And why did he remember it?

Summary of new pope

The new pope is Jorge Mario Bergoglio, he’s from Argentina and the first time that pope from Latin America. He acts as a bridge between Europe and southern part of the world.
