Pope francis brings many firsts to the vatican

The new leader of the catholics is man firsts. He is an older man at 76. He lived in a simple apartment, he cooked his one meals by himself and he rode the city bus to work.

What we did in our CoC IEP 200 Class on Monday, April 1st

Lesson 5: (April 1)

In Class

  1. News Hour: “After Chavez, Questions Focus on Venezuela’s FutureNews for YouArticle
    • Began by putting the “Check Comprehension” questions from the “Teacher’s Guide”
    • Had students discuss “Teacher’s Guide” discussion questions with their partners then together as a class, had a brief discussion about the differences between capitalism, socialism and communism
    • Asked “If you were Chavez, would you choose your friend to replace you or would you follow the constitution?”
    • During the discussion the word “charisma” came up and we discussed how it referred to a person’s personality
  2. Homework Check-in
  3. Survey project:

    • Questionnaire: 3 questions with numbers (1 to 5, Strongly Agree to Strongly Disagree); 7 General Questions
  4. NorthStar 2 R&W: Pages 121 to 122

    • Listened to some of the “Rethinking Depression, Part 3” episode of ideas with Paul Kennedy (an NPR radio show) as it talked abotu SPARX a video game for teenagers with depression. It fit with the North Star unit’s focus on video games that can help people in the real world. (Also gave me them a chance to review the word “acronym” which came up when I was explaining NPR.)
  5. Fluency: IPA worksheet Review
  6. Short Story: Reviewed pages 43 to 44 and read page 45 of “Frozen Pizza and other slices of life
    • Page 43 – Why did Mrs. Stonehouse think “The poor boy”?
    • Page 44 – Why does the man think Mrs. Stonehouse doesn’t cook proper meals?
    • Page 45 – What kind of pizza did the man microwave?
